Purple Affair

Alice Walker said – “Womanist is to feminist as purple is to lavender”, where this quote has a deeper meaning, this is not what I am about to talk here. I love this quote while I think that purple is a difficult color to understand and carry.

I went to the makeup store and came across this beautiful purple shade lipstick from Lakme Absolute Lip Pout Matte. Name of the shade is Role-a-cola and is in Lakme’s collaboration with designer Masaba Gupta. Amazing color and I instantly fell in love with the color and wanted to do a purple makeup look.  I was so excited to create this look that woke up early in the morning (yes, that is rare :P).

I started off by applying moisturizer, and that is a holy routine for someone with normal to dry skin. For the base I use Base Magique, transforming and smoothing primer from L’oreal Paris. This even out the skin tone and hides basic pigmentation creating a perfect canvas for the make up to follow.

For the foundation, I used L’oreal Infallible Stay fresh in the shade300 Ambre Amber. This shade gives me a completely natural finish. To set the foundation I used Loreal Infallible powder foundation- Warm Sand. I am not a big fan of using a compact after foundation as it kills the natural finish at times but it helps setting the foundation at certain areas like the t-zone and around the lips. Lakme Absolute Sun-kissed bronzer was the perfect product to contour the cheeks, nose and the outer corner of the face. I did not want to use a blush as I did not want ay other color on the face.

Unlikely, but I started with the eye makeup before highlighting the face. I wanted to use little highlighting as needed to compliment the eye. For the base I used the shade Pure Chocolate from the Flawless palette by Makeup revolution London on the crease. For the outer corner and the sunken area I used the shade Night from the same palette. It gives more dimension to the eye and create that smoky effect. We all love smoky eyes, don’t we 😀
Because I don’t pluck my brows, I used the Maybelline Brow Promade to give them the required depth.

It was difficult to choose the eye shadow as I did not want it to be the exact shade of purple as the lip color. I remember I had bought a purple eye shadow for a friend and went back to the shop to buy the same but they had closed the counter for the same. So I got it from her for a day to see if it can be the color I want to use and YES, Tadaa!! PERFECT. It is the shade Purple Heaven – a mono eye shadow from Makeup Revolution again. The shade runs more towards blue and less purple bur gives the exact color variation I wanted.

After the eye shadow was done, I needed to perfectly line the eyes and needed a perfect liner. Here I used L’oreal Paris Superstar Duo designer eye liner and I love the precision that I get from it. It is a sketch pen liner with a pointed tip that creates a perfect wing as smooth as butter, literally. I just love using this product.

I curled the lashes with the help of a spoon. Then used the artificial eye lashes to impart the much required drama and depth to the look. These are not the best ones available in the market because of the texture. I got them in a hurry. 🙁 But will let you people know when I get the right one. The artificial lashes should be put as close as possible to the real lash line to make sure they don’t look messy. Completed the eye with a purple mascara from Colorbar Starry eye Mascara in the shade 03 Starry Mauve. Tip – Please make sure to blend the artificial lashes really well with the real ones with the help of the mascara. I finally completed the eye make-up and was very happy with the result.

I used the Revlon Photoready highlighter in the shade Bare Light to highlight the bridge of the nose, cheeks, forehead, under the eyebrows and chin. It is a liquid highlighter that blends perfectly with the skin.

Last but not the least for sure, the product that inspired this look was the Lakme Absolute Lip Pout Matte(Masaba Lips) – Role-a-cola. The application was easy with the shape of the crayon. I will review this and another shade I have from this range later. They have the cutest packaging and color. Added a little shimmer to the center of the lips to give it the starry effect.

Do create this look and share the pictures. It does not have to be the same but take inspiration from whatever color you like. :* 🙂
